RSPB Scotland have been monitoring Scottish seabird colonies for a long time and this project saw the purchase and installation of two full HD resolution PTZ cameras at the Mull of Galloway Reserve to replace two previous cameras that overlooked important seabird colonies, in particular European Shag (Gulosus aristotelis), Black-legged Kittiwakes (Rissa tridactyla), Common Guillemots (Uria aalge), and Razorbills (Alca torda). The cameras have been a useful tool for RSPB staff to monitor seabirds, especially the productivity of nests and the success of chicks, and gather footage of nest predation by Peregrine Falcons (Falco peregrinus) giving an interesting insight into how avian predators hunt within seabird colonies.
