Seagrass restoration – Findhorn, Narin & Lossie Rivers Trust – Findhorn Bay

Bringing the marine element to source to sea watershed regeneration, this grant builds on three years of survey and community engagement work. Led by the Findhorn, Nairn & Lossie Rivers Trust (FNLRT), the Findhorn Watershed Initiative (FWI) was launched in 2022 as a multi-generational vision for nature recovery and connection at a watershed-scale. Seagrass is an important habitat for juvenile salmonids and as such seagrass restoration enhances FNLRT’s efforts to protect and restore wild fish populations. The watershed initiative leverages strong, existing partnerships and community networks to further conservation issues that span multiple connected habitats. SMEEF has been able to commit to a grant of £124,541 to support this work between 2026-28 using resources donated by SSEN Distribution to SMEEF.
