This project enabled National Museums of Scotland to continue working with SMASS, CSIP and local communities to safely collect, transport, prepare, handle and store cetacean specimens to be held at the National Museums Scotland Collections Centre (NMCC) from across the UK. Large, and often decomposed, specimens can be difficult to transport and this grant enabled a replacement vehicle to be purchased second hand.
In 2025 SMEEF was able to provide a grant of £29,000 using resources from the Nature Restoration Fund.
