Seabird Resilience Fund: Taking Flight now open for applications

SMEEF’s first open grants round of the Seabird Resilience Fund is ready for take off ! ‘Taking Flight’ is designed to accelerate progress against the Scottish Seabird Conservation Action Plan and its aim of maximising seabird prospects and building resilience in seabird populations.

The first round of Taking Flight is open for applications until midday on Friday 7th November. We are seeking applications to support a broad range of seabird conservation projects, for example, piloting novel technologies to support monitoring, conducting survey and scoping activities, and fostering collaboration and engagement that enhances seabird conservation.

We will be holding a webinar on Wednesday 8th October 2025, 2 – 3pm for prospective applicants to speak directly with the grants team and ask questions about their project and the application process. You can sign up to the free webinar here.

Here are the key documents for ‘Taking Flight’ Application Form and Grant Criteria or go to the seabird grants section of this website, alternatively contact the team at  grants@smeef.scot.

Taking Flight is supported by the Seabird Resilience Fund, which was set up within SMEEF following voluntary contributors from offshore renewable energy developers in the Northeast and East Ornithology Group (NEEOG). This initiative would not be possible without developers within NEEOG and we thank them for their generous donations. The following developers provided contributions to the fund:
