RSPB Scotland has transformed around 100ha of improved grassland and short rotation willow coppice and 98ha of saltmarsh into a dynamic coastal wetland reserve, providing breeding habitats for coastal waders and feeding and roosting areas for wintering and passage waders and wildfowl. The project will see the construction of some 3.6km of anti-predator fencing in order to prevent access by large mammalian predators to safeguard these areas particularly for breeding waders and wildfowl.
In 2022/23 the marine element of the Nature Restoration Fund was administered by the SMEEF team. This enabled grants to reach more marine focused projects including the Crook of Baldoon reserve.
