What guidance is available for sand dune restoration?

The UK Sand Dune Managers Handbook provides guidance on a wide range of management actions on dunes, which are relevant to restoration and all forms of habitat enhancement. The project report associated with this guidance document (Chambers et al., 2022) provides a substantial amount of further guidance on coastal sand dune enhancement and experience from case studies.

SMEEF has funded sand dune restoration projects previously and you may find this case study from the St. Andrews Links Trust useful.

The current key guidance documents relevant to enhancement in Scotland are listed in the checklist – use this to create a bespoke work list for your group.
