What guidance is available for seagrass restoration?

NatureScot has developed a seagrass restoration handbook and guidance document in collaboration with Marine Scotland and Project Seagrass. To ensure projects are evidence-led this document provides background information, regulatory considerations and monitoring/research guidance. The project report (Chambers et al., 2022) associated with this toolkit provides a substantial amount of further guidance on seagrass enhancement and experience from case studies.

SMEEF has funded a large number of seagrass enhancement and restoration projects across Scotland. Check out this case study from UHI Shetland mapping lost seagrass.

The current key guidance documents of relevance to enhancement in Scotland are listed in the checklist – tick items that your group should explore in more detail to create your own tailored worklist.
